At Coating Lab, we manufacture custom metal flashings to your exact specifications for builders, roofers, and homeowners across Auckland. Whether you need consistent profiles across multiple jobs, flashings for a new build, or replacements to match an existing roof — we fabricate and powder coat everything in-house at our Onehunga workshop.
Every flashing is cut from flat sheet, folded on our press brake, and powder coated under one roof. That means fewer suppliers, fewer delays, and consistent quality from order to order. We also offer sandblasting for flashings that need surface preparation before coating.
Types of Flashings We Make
Roof Flashings
Roof flashings seal the junctions where roofing iron meets walls, penetrations, or other roof planes. We fabricate standard and custom profiles to suit long-run steel, corrugated iron, and pressed metal tile roofing. If you have a non-standard pitch or profile, we can work from your measurements or a sample.
Barge Flashings
Barge flashings (also called rake flashings) finish the gable ends of a roof, covering the exposed edge of the roofing iron and barge board. We make them in standard depths or custom sizes to suit your roof profile and fascia detail.
Apron Flashings
Apron flashings are used where a roof meets a wall — common on lean-to extensions, dormers, and chimney surrounds. We fabricate apron flashings with the correct kickout and upturn to ensure water runs away from the junction cleanly.
Ridge Cappings
Ridge cappings cover the peak where two roof planes meet. We make both standard vee-ridge and flat-top profiles, and can match the angle to your specific roof pitch. Powder coated to match your roofing colour for a clean finish.
Valley Flashings
Valley flashings line the internal channel where two roof planes intersect. Correct valley profiles are critical for managing water flow in heavy rain. We fabricate valley flashings from a range of materials depending on the application and environment.
Window Flashings
Window flashings protect the head, jamb, and sill around window and door openings, preventing moisture from entering the building envelope. We make them to suit both timber-framed and steel-framed construction, with profiles to match your cladding system.
Parapet Cappings
Parapet cappings sit on top of parapet walls on flat-roofed buildings, shedding water away from the wall and preventing moisture ingress. We fabricate them with drip edges on both sides and can accommodate any parapet width.
Drip Edges
Drip edges are installed along eaves and fascia lines to direct water cleanly off the roof edge and into the gutter. A properly formed drip edge prevents water from tracking back underneath the roofing and damaging fascia or soffit timbers.
Materials
We work with a range of metals to suit different applications, environments, and budgets. The right material depends on where the flashing will be installed and what it needs to withstand.
Colorsteel is the New Zealand standard for roofing and is the most common choice for flashings that need to match an existing roof. It comes pre-painted in the standard roofing colour range. Zincalume offers excellent corrosion resistance with a metallic finish and is commonly used where a painted finish is not required or where flashings will be powder coated to a custom colour.
Galvanised steel is a traditional and cost-effective option with a zinc coating for basic corrosion protection. It's suitable for concealed flashings or applications where appearance is secondary. Aluminium is lightweight and naturally corrosion-resistant, making it a good choice for coastal environments or where weight is a concern.
Stainless steel provides superior corrosion resistance and is used in demanding environments — coastal properties, chemical exposure, or high-moisture areas. Copper is a premium material that develops a natural patina over time, often specified by architects for heritage or high-end residential projects.
Colour Options
All flashings can be powder coated to match your project:
- All Colorsteel colours (Karaka, Ironsand, Ebony, Grey Friars, etc.)
- Resene colour matching
- RAL colour range
- Custom colour matching from samples
Flashings for Roofers & Commercial Projects
We supply roofers, roofing contractors, and commercial builders across Auckland. If you're running multiple jobs and need a reliable supplier for custom flashings, we can help streamline your workflow.
Bulk orders and trade supply are a core part of what we do. Whether you need a single run of barge flashings or a full set of profiles for a commercial re-roof, we manufacture to the same standard every time. Repeat orders are straightforward — we keep your profile details on file so reordering is quick and consistent.
Colour matching to existing roofing is something we handle regularly. Bring in a sample or provide the Colorsteel colour code and we'll powder coat your flashings to match. For re-roofing jobs where the original colour has weathered, we can work with you to get the closest possible match.
We service all of Auckland from our Onehunga workshop. Contact us for a quote on your next project — no job is too large or too small.
