- Subframes — rear subframes, tail sections, seat rails
- Swingarms — single-sided and conventional swingarms
- Triple clamps and yokes
- Wheels — spoked, alloy, and cast wheels; see our wheels and rims page for more
- Engine covers — clutch covers, generator covers, side cases
- Footpeg assemblies and brackets
- Handlebars, risers, and clamps
- Fender and guard brackets
- Crash bars and engine guards
- Exhaust headers — note: high-heat powders are required for exhaust applications; contact us to confirm suitability
Restoration vs Custom Builds
We work across both ends of the spectrum:
Restoration
Bringing a classic or vintage bike back to factory condition requires matching original finishes accurately. Whether it's a period-correct gloss black frame on a vintage Japanese bike or a satin finish on a British classic, we can work from colour references or samples to match what was there originally.
Custom Builds
Custom, cafe racer, scrambler, and bobber builds are a different brief — where the finish is part of the design. We offer the full RAL palette, specialty finishes, and colour matching for builds where the coating needs to make a statement, not just protect.
Colour Options
Motorcycle powder coating is one area where we see real variety in colour requests:
- Gloss black — classic, timeless, suits most builds
- Satin black — stealth look, popular on custom and modern builds
- Satin grey — subtle, period-correct on some classics
- Wrinkle black — textured finish, traditionally used on engine cases and some frames
- Custom RAL colours — bold colours for show builds and custom machines
- Colour match — match to an existing part, colour reference, or paint chip
The Process
- Strip down: Parts need to arrive clean and stripped of all components that aren't being coated — no bearings, seals, rubber, or hardware unless it's being removed after
- Sandblast: All existing paint, primer, and corrosion is removed to bare metal
- Pre-treatment: Chemical treatment prepares the surface for powder adhesion
- Powder application: Electrostatic powder applied to all surfaces
- Oven cure: Parts are cured to achieve final hardness and adhesion
- Inspection: Coverage and finish quality are confirmed before handover
For frames, all bearings, bushings, and threaded inserts need to be removed before dropping off. If you're not sure what needs to come out, talk to us first and we can advise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — frames are a common job for us. The frame needs to be completely stripped (engine, electrics, suspension, and all hardware removed) before we can sandblast and coat it. We work with full restorations and ground-up custom builds.
Yes, provided the covers are aluminium or steel and can withstand the cure temperature. Engine covers need to be clean and free of oil before we can coat them. If they're heavily contaminated with oil, degreasing before sandblasting is essential.
We offer the full RAL colour range plus custom colour matching. Gloss black and satin black are the most popular for frames, but we do everything from period-correct restoration finishes to bold custom colours for built bikes.
Turnaround depends on the job complexity, colour availability, and current workload. Contact us for a quote and we'll give you a realistic timeframe at that point.
Yes — we work on both ends. Period-correct restorations where the goal is to match original finishes, and custom builds where the owner wants something unique. Whatever the brief, get in touch and we'll work with you on the result.
