Coating Lab offers sheet metal folding and bending services from our workshop in Onehunga, Auckland. Our press brake handles a wide range of folding work — from simple single bends through to complex multi-bend profiles with tight tolerances. Whether you need one piece or a full production run, we fold it accurately and consistently.
What sets us apart from standalone folding shops is what happens next. Once your parts are folded, they can move straight into our sandblasting booth for surface preparation, then into our powder coating line for finishing. No loading onto a truck. No waiting for another shop. No risk of damage in transit. Your parts stay under our roof from flat sheet to finished product.
Materials We Fold
Our press brake handles the full range of sheet metals used across construction, fabrication, and architectural applications in New Zealand:
- Mild steel — the most common material for brackets, frames, panels, and general fabrication work
- Stainless steel — for food-grade, marine, and corrosion-resistant applications
- Aluminium — lightweight folding for signage, architectural features, and shopfitting
- Colorsteel — pre-painted steel folded for flashings, cappings, and building envelope details
- Zincalume — for roofing flashings and building components where a bare metallic finish is suitable
We can work with material you supply or source sheet stock on your behalf. If you are unsure which material suits your application, talk to us — we can advise based on the end use and environment.
What We Fold
Our metal folding services cover a broad range of products and components. Here is what typically comes through the workshop:
- Flashings — roof flashings, barge flashings, cappings, soakers, apron flashings, and all standard building profiles
- Custom profiles — non-standard shapes folded to your drawings or samples
- Channels and angles — U-channels, C-channels, Z-sections, and L-angles for structural and trim applications
- Brackets — mounting brackets, support brackets, shelf brackets, and fixing plates
- Panels — wall panels, fascia panels, cladding panels, and infill panels
- Architectural details — louvres, screen panels, copings, sills, and decorative metalwork for commercial and residential projects
- Trays and covers — drip trays, cable trays, equipment covers, and protective housings
- Box sections — folded box profiles, hollow sections, and enclosed shapes
If it can be folded from sheet metal, we can likely make it. Send us a sketch, a CAD file, or bring in a sample piece and we will quote it.
Folding, Coating & Blasting — One Workshop
Most sheet metal folding jobs also need surface preparation or a protective finish. That usually means coordinating between a folding shop, a sandblaster, and a coater — three separate businesses, three lots of transport, three invoices, and plenty of opportunities for delays or damage.
At Coating Lab, we handle all three under one roof. Our workshop runs powder coating, sandblasting, and press brake folding side by side. That means your job moves from one station to the next without leaving the building. The result is faster completion, less handling, fewer scratches and dings, and a single point of contact for the entire job.
This integrated setup is particularly valuable for architectural metalwork, building flashings, and fabrication projects where the finished surface matters. Parts go from the brake straight to the coating line while they are still clean and undamaged.
Trade Folding Services
We work with sheet metal fabricators, engineering workshops, and building companies across Auckland who need reliable folding capacity. If your own brake is tied up, if a job exceeds your machine's capability, or if you simply want folding handled by someone else so you can focus on your core work, we are here to help.
Our trade folding service offers consistent quality and repeatable results. We work from your drawings and deliver to your specs. For fabrication companies, there is a real advantage in sending folding work to a shop that also runs a coating line — your parts can be folded and coated in one stop, ready for your client. No double-handling, no chasing a separate coater, no delays between processes.
We handle everything from small overflow jobs to ongoing production runs. Talk to us about setting up a trade account.
Custom Flashing Profiles
Roofers and builders — we fold custom flashings to any profile you need. Standard profiles, non-standard profiles, one-offs, or bulk runs. If you have a detail that does not match an off-the-shelf product, send us the dimensions and we will fold it. We regularly produce roof flashings, barge flashings, cappings, corners, and specialty profiles for residential and commercial roofing projects across Auckland.
Visit our custom flashings page for more detail on what we offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
We need a drawing showing the profile dimensions, bend locations, material type and thickness, quantity required, and whether coating is needed. CAD files, sketches, or even photos of similar items are all helpful.
Yes, if you have an existing piece you want replicated, bring it in and we can measure and reproduce it. This is often the easiest way for replacement parts or matching existing items.
No minimum — we are happy to make one-off pieces or large production runs. Larger quantities are more economical per piece, but we cater to all order sizes.
