Steel, Colorsteel, and aluminium are all used for flashings across New Zealand. Which one suits your job comes down to the site and the specification:

• Aluminium — naturally corrosion resistant. Aluminium does not rely on a zinc coating the way steel does, so it will not rust if the surface is cut or scratched. That makes it well suited to coastal and marine environments, and to exposed architectural details where long-term appearance matters.

Aluminium is the go-to for flashings that sit alongside aluminium joinery — head flashings above windows and doors, sill flashings, jamb and packer details, and the trims that tie cladding into the window opening. Aluminium takes a powder-coated finish exceptionally well, which is a big part of why it is favoured for visible flashings. We powder coat aluminium flashings to any colour and finish at our Onehunga workshop:

• Colour match — RAL codes, Resene and Dulux references, Colorsteel colour names, or a physical sample from your joinery, cladding, or roofing.
• Finish texture — gloss, satin, or matt, so the flashing can either match or deliberately contrast with the surface it borders.
• Durability — a baked powder finish stands up to UV and weather far better than a brush-applied paint, and pairs with aluminium's corrosion resistance for a long service life on exposed elevations.

If your specification calls for an anodised aluminium finish instead, talk to us — we can source anodised material or arrange anodising to your specification. For most colour-matched jobs, powder coating on aluminium is the simpler and more flexible option.

How to Order — Send Us Your Joinery or Flashing Schedule

Ordering custom aluminium flashings is straightforward:

1. Send your drawings or flashing schedule — include the profile shape, key dimensions (face heights, returns, overhangs), and the length of each piece. Joinery schedules and cladding details are ideal.
2. Choose your colour and finish — give us the colour reference (RAL, Resene, Dulux, Colorsteel name) or send a sample, and tell us gloss, satin, or matt.
3. We fold and finish — your aluminium flashings are folded and powder coated at our Onehunga workshop.
4. Collection or delivery — pick up from 55 Angle Street, Onehunga, or we can arrange delivery across Auckland.
