Corner Flashings in Auckland — Custom Made & Powder Coated
Corner flashings cover the internal and external junctions where two wall planes meet, providing a weathertight and visually clean finish at cladding corners.
Get A Free QuoteWhat Are Corner Flashings?
Corner flashings are formed metal angle sections that cover the junctions where two wall planes meet. On buildings with metal cladding, fibre cement, or other sheet-based cladding systems, the corner joints are vulnerable points where water can penetrate if not properly detailed. A corner flashing provides a continuous, pre-formed metal cover that overlaps both cladding faces and seals the corner against wind-driven rain.
There are two types. External corner flashings cover the outside corners of buildings — the protruding corners where two wall faces meet. Internal corner flashings (also called angle flashings or return flashings) cover the inside corners where two wall planes meet at a concave junction. Both types come in standard 90-degree angles and can be folded to other angles for non-orthogonal buildings.
Because corner flashings are often visible, colour matching to the cladding or contrasting as an architectural feature is common. We powder coat to any specification.
Where Are Corner Flashings Used?
- External corners on buildings with profiled metal or sheet cladding
- Internal corners at wall-to-wall junctions on commercial and industrial buildings
- Parapet wall corners where two parapet planes meet
- Around column wraps where sheet cladding meets a structural column
- At re-entrant corners on complex building geometries
- At the corners of architectural feature elements — blade walls, fins, and signage panels
Materials Available
We manufacture corner flashings in the following materials:
- Stainless Steel — superior corrosion resistance, ideal for coastal, commercial and residential applications
- Galvanised Steel — traditional zinc-coated steel for applications where painting or coating will be applied
- Aluminium — lightweight with excellent corrosion resistance, popular for coastal buildings and powder-coated finishes
- Colorsteel — pre-painted steel in standard colours for integration with pre-painted cladding systems
Profile Options
We offer both standard profiles and custom-made to spec. We manufacture corner flashings to drawing or sample. Key dimensions are the face widths on each side (to suit the cladding panel width and lap requirement), the corner angle, and any return or kick-out at the base. Standard 90-degree internal and external corners are common, but we fold to any angle.
Colour Options
Powder coating is available on all steel and aluminium corner flashings. A colour-matched corner flashing creates a clean, seamless finish; a contrasting colour can be used as a deliberate architectural detail. Options include:
- Colorsteel colour range — Karaka, Ironsand, Ebony, Grey Friars, Sheerstone, Dune, Gull Grey, Thunder and others
- Resene colour matching
- Dulux colour matching
- Full RAL colour range
- Custom colour matching from a physical sample
Who Uses Corner Flashings?
Our corner flashing customers include:
- Builders — detailing metal-clad walls on new residential and commercial builds
- Architects and designers — specifying colour-matched or feature corner details
- Cladding installers — needing custom corner angles that standard stock doesn't cover
NZ Building Code Considerations
Flashings play a critical role in meeting the weathertightness requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. Corner flashings must overlap the cladding sufficiently on each face to prevent water ingress, and must be compatible with the sealant and backing used at the junction. Always consult your building consent documentation for specific requirements.
Related Flashings
Corner flashings are typically used alongside these other flashing types:
- Parapet Cappings — for the tops of parapet walls where corner flashings turn up
- Window Flashings — for head, jamb, and sill details at openings in the same wall
- Cover Flashings — for movement and expansion joints in the same wall
- Drip Edges — for the base of walls and cladding above gutters
Frequently Asked Questions
An external corner flashing covers the outside corner where two wall planes meet, protecting the exposed edge from water and physical impact. An internal corner flashing covers the inside junction where two walls meet, typically used in wet areas or where two cladding panels need a weathertight joint.
Yes. We powder coat corner flashings to any RAL, Resene, Dulux, or Colorsteel colour. Matching the flashing to the cladding colour creates a clean, seamless finish at wall junctions.
Yes. We can fold corner flashings to any angle. Provide the angle and the required face widths and we will manufacture to suit. For unusual angles, a drawing or site measurement is helpful.
Aluminium is a popular choice for external corners on metal-clad buildings due to its light weight and corrosion resistance. Galvanised steel and Colorsteel are also widely used, and stainless steel is available for demanding environments. The right choice depends on the cladding system and environment.
Provide the face widths on each side of the corner, the corner angle (if not 90 degrees), the total length of each corner run required, the material, and your colour finish. We will provide a quote. Turnaround is typically 1–2 days for simple orders and 3–5 days for complex orders.
